In March 2016, the international media group Hubert Burda Media has made it's Drupal 8 based Thunder Content Management System (CMS) publicly available online as a free open-source platform for use and further development by other publishers.

Since then, Burda has migrated many of its brands to Thunder (e.g. instyle.debunte.de,...). And the idea of an open-source CMS was also embraced eagerly by publishers worldwide. Many other publishers have started their own Thunder projects.

At the Drupal Business Days, Collin Müller, Head of Strategic Development at Burda Magazine Holding, will look back at the first year of Thunder and recap the experiences made:

  • What happens, if a company decides to rely on open-source software?
  • What does that mean for the costs, and for the company culture?
  • What is it like to work with the open-source community?
